What is Micro Sclerotherapy?
Micro Sclerotherapy is an outpatient procedure to eliminate small to medium sized blood vessels such as varicose veins, spider veins and haemorrhoids or blood vessel and lymphatic system structural abnormalities or malformations. I use a sterile chemical to inject the vessels using tiny needles causing inflammation, irritation and scarring of the inner lining of the vessel. This causes the vessels to close up (fibrosis), shrink or hardens and eventually fade away completely.
Spider veins or broken capillaries are small superficial veins occurring normally on the legs (1:4 women) which are red, blue or purple in colour. These are caused by weak vascular walls and inefficient circulation, normally they do not cause health concerns but make some people self-conscious – they can also occasionally cause itching, night cramps, leg heaviness or achiness.
There are some conditions that can contribute to the development of these veins including hereditary, hormonal factors such as pregnancy, weight gain or activities that include prolonged sitting or standing and trauma. Normal blood circulation is carried out through the healthy deep veins which makes these small superficial veins redundant and causes no concerns for removing them.
